Where have you gone?

It was harder than I thought. I still partly blame myself for his disappearance. I could have insisted on helping him. We could have gone to that school together. Or to the hospital. But I know he wasn’t insane, because I heard and felt it too. And I still do.

On the third day Jack didn’t come back, I went to the police. They searched his belongings and even conducted an investigation of some kind, but he’d vanished without a trace. They managed to retrace his steps up to the very doors of that school – and that’s where the trail goes cold. There were no signs of entry, and the building was the same as it was a month before, according to Mr. Hyde, the watchman. “Nobody gets inside while I’m here,” he said. “No intruder escapes me.”
